PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The School Within A College (SWAC) program is a partnership between the Toronto District School Board and several GTA colleges. The primary focus of the program is to support students, looking to re-engage through an adult learning environment and reach their academic potential moving towards earning their OSSD. SWAC is designed to offer students a full-time opportunity to earn 4+ credits in a semester alongside their home school. Students remain registered and supported by their home school throughout. This is not an alternative school, but instead an alternative program.

What are the benefits of SWAC?

  • You can earn at least 4 credits, sometimes 6, in one semester
  • You experience a new program while remaining registered at your home school
  • Transportation to and from the college via TTC is free
  • A Daily Nutrition program, which include light snacks / grab-n-go style
  • College Courses offer free tuition, supplies, and textbooks as required
  • Access to college services, including: workshops, campus locations (library, gym etc.), counseling and accessibility services
  • College advising support, and college application fee reimbursement

REGISTRATION DETAILS

  • Offered at Humber College, George Brown College, Centennial College, and Seneca College

How do I register for SWAC?

  • Book an appointment with your guidance counsellor to discuss and determine your referring teacher
  • Complete the Expression of Interest Form
  • Your guidance counsellor or referring teacher will need to submit your expression of interest for you through the Dual Credit Application System
  • Once your application has been submitted, it will be reviewed by the SWAC Coordinator according to the dates outlined:
    Fall (Semester 1) Dates
    Winter (Semester 2) Dates
    Summer Dates
  • You will be invited to a virtual readiness meeting to meet with the SWAC Coordinator to discuss your interest in the program and pathway plans (this is not an interview, and you may have someone attend with you if you wish)
  • Upon completion of the readiness meeting, and review of your expression of interest form, you will receive a program offer based on the dates outlined (see session links above)
  • Once your application is approved, a program plan will be sent to the referring teacher, principal and you (the student). The school and student must approve of the plan set out for them while in the SWAC program.
  • You must regularly check your TDSB email for communications and program updates, as all communication will take place via email
