PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

LAWS is an innovative partnership between the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, working with partner high schools from the Toronto District School Board. LAWS is an education engagement and support program for high school students facing barriers to postsecondary access. Guided by equity and possibility, LAWS exposes program participants to legal thinking and the justice system through workshops, mentorship and employment programs.

Programs:
Core LAWS Program

Through its Core Program Stream, LAWS works with classes of students at its partner high schools in a three-year cohorted program that is integrated throughout the students’ course curricula and enriched by a wide range of extracurricular opportunities.

Newcomer Youth Program

The LAWS Newcomer Program is an engaging, fun and interactive way for newcomer students to build their understanding of the Canadian justice system and our democratic processes. Students enjoy positive interactions with members of the legal community, explore the wide range of justice sector careers, learn about Ontario’s post-secondary education options, and work towards the goals of the ESL curriculum.
