PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
In collaboration with the TDSB Co-operative Education Department and the Aboriginal Education Centre, the Faculty of Education offers a first-year university-level course to Aboriginal secondary school students from the TDSB. The course (Aboriginal People, Identity and Education) is offered at a downtown TDSB site and is a dual-credit (students earn a high school credit and advanced credit for university). The course is co-taught by a university faculty member and TDSB secondary teacher. The project provides Aboriginal students access to Aboriginal subject material within a community of Aboriginal teachers and learners and strengthens relationships between Aboriginal secondary students and York University that foster interest in post-secondary studies.
